I think that this does stand alone to a point but you are definitely going to get more enjoyment out of it if you have read the first. I really enjoyed Jamie's story. She met Ambrose but he is in such pain and isn't ready for what she means to him. But when she needs him, he moves past his pain and does what is necessary. And plans on helping her escape, when Ambrose finds her he also realizes they both are his true halves.They have to fight for their lives to get out of Hell and then the Demons bring the fight to the human realm.
