Leonard Cohen is currently my favorite songwriter/composer. He was also a poet. His best work is in his songs--his poems sound a lot like his songs, but not as good (without the musical background). He had some very good poems in here, and it was good to read some of the song lyrics.Cohen is self-indulgent, self-important and not very nice.He wallows in his own misery and thinks it's profound because he shares his emotions and thoughts unfiltered. Instead, he just exposes how sad and superficial he is.And yet, some of his work is lyrical and inspired because he is not afraid to feel what he feels.
tbh I'm not a fan of Cohen being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. I think it was a ridiculous decision and on top of it, imo Cohen behaved like an elitist asshole. That said, it's kinda cute to have his poems and his poetic songtexts in an anthology and for a fan, it's definitely a must-have because it's a beautifully, yet simply made edition.

I think I am still not old and mature enough to appreciate this piece given how everyone else likes it.Who by Fire is my favourite poem. With others, only bits and pieces, few lines of poems at most.
This one is hard to review. I started it early in the month and kind of trickled through it a little at a time, which I think is a reasonable thing to do with a collection of poems. I am a big Leonard Cohen fan. I don't think many people who pick this up wouldn't be. It's a beautiful little printing, and it's cool having the lyrics to some of his more popular songs in one nice volume. But man, as much as I enjoy his music, his poems are just... ehh. Every once in a while I'd run into one that
really just kind of underwhelming, sorry
I picked this book up last February while visiting the New York Public Library. Some beautiful poems in here... and also lots where references went over my head. One anthology to read over and over again, but this was the first venture! Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.
