Criticize Regarding Books The Stainless Steel Rat Returns (Stainless Steel Rat #11)
Ever pick up a book you're in the middle of and start reading it just to finish the fucker? That's where I was at with this. It's a cold, hateful place...The Stain Steel Rat, this sort of zany James Bond in outer space action/comedy series spanned about 50 years. There were decade-long gaps between books. Writers' styles can change over time. I get that and I'm willing to except change. Maybe a character unintentionally evolves. That's fine. I'll roll with it. But when the book series is meant

While some teenage girls swoon over Mr. Darcy, Edward, Jacob or any of the other YA literary hunks, I swooned over James Bolivar diGriz, aka the Stainless Steel Rat. OK, I'll admit it, I still swoon over him, even with his jealous ex-assassin wife, Angela. Shhh... don't tell her. It's been twelve years since the last installment, and given given the fact that Harry Harrison started writing them in 1961, I was content with having read what I had. But them, woohoo!, a tenth book, The Stainless

This was a struggle. Slippery Jim diGriz is one of my favorite serialized characters, but this book may have been one too many in the series. I would read a chapter and then feel no compunction to continue. I'm not sure what was more off-putting, the ignorant cousins, the return of porcuswine, or the dimness of Jim himself. The weakest element of the book, for me, is its episodic nature. However, it improved significantly once they reached the planet named Salvation. Probably interest will be

I'm a bit sad, knowing that this will be the last book in the series (RIP Harry Harrison). The stories are funny (sometimes hilarious).Same here (though this book was a tad too episodic for me - that'sthe reason for four stars).

Slippery Jim and Angelina are back! After a restful retirement from their hybrid life of crime and law enforcement, they are called upon to help the rather simple porcuswine farming community of Jim's earlier life. Loaded with interplanetary adventures, the rat's return is marked by Harrison's trademark humor, social satire and hare-brained fun.

Expanded from a short story, this final novel has some of the humor and satire of the original series. Released more than 10 years after the previous book, it serves as a much better end to the saga. This story of Slippery Jim's Flying Dutchman is mostly just okay.In a standard trope, Jim's cousin the porcu-swine farmer shows up in need of assistance. Shortly (and in a very contrived fashion) our main character is broke and ends up taking charge of his cousin's space ship load of farmers and

Oh Jim or that Jim? The dilemma of time travel really puts me in a spin! (Doh!)And sadly, this is Mr. Harrison's last outing with ol' Slippery. HH was an interstellar star-man to create this character. And I've been a fan since my teens with the serialised version of SSR's adventures in 2000ad.However a slippery Celluloid is in production. Yay!I think that would have put a sparkle in Harry's eye and sadly brought a tear to mine.Cheers Harry - The King is Dead. Long Live The Rat!!
