Ink Witch (Kat Dubois Chronicles #1)
Three years ago, the gods abandoned us. We've been alone ever since.
Kat Dubois is immortal, and she’s retired. She’s long since hung up her sword and left assassinating immortals to someone else... anyone else. She’s now a hard drinking, sass-flinging Seattle tattoo artist with the innate ability to read people’s fortunes using her charmed deck of tarot cards. Her days of bloodshed are over, and she has nothing but time — an eternity, in fact — to hide from her past.
Until someone from her past shows up on her doorstep with news that her beloved older brother and mentor, Dominic, has gone missing. Kat may be the only person with the right skills — and access to the right magic — to track him down. She must confront her past if she’s to have any chance of finding and saving her brother. She must fight her demons. She must embrace the power within her.
She must become the Ink Witch.

Inkwitch was a great start for the new year. Right off the bat Farliegh reminded me of Annie Bellet (Twenty sided Sorceress). I like the characters and the relationship dynamics. The first three chapters felt like slipping into a comfy pair of slippers. First person, strong lead character, good intoduction to the story-line. There was a lot of world building to establish. And I liked that Farleigh took her time establishing the foundation. Nothing turns me off quicker than an immediate
Can she save those she cares for with her gift?Kat is a tatoo artist, fortune teller, people finder and a Nejeret with a special gift of being able to control the ink that she draws. She finds out that her brother has been captured along with others of her people and decides to set them free only to find that there is a more devious plan afoot. Can she save her brother before it is too late? Continuation of Echoes in Time series with more action and mystery as well as suspense of gifted people

Need to read other books. This book took some time for me to get into, mainly because it seemed that this took up another set of stories and contiued them on. It's like reading the Harper Hall books before reading the DragonRider books first. It got confusing, but enough detail was in there to let me understand this story, even if I didn't get all the tie in points. I'd like to see a list of Lindsey's books and what narrative order to read them in. But for all that, once I got into the story, I
Characters steeped in the legends of Egyptian GodsHow far can you run from your past? From your own actions? From those that love you? How long can you run from yourself? Kat is about to learn that you can't. Every choice you've ever made becomes part of who you are. When her brother ends up missing, she will need to come face to face with those pieces of herself in her search for him. She will need help from old friends and family she had abandoned. And learn that some cannot be trusted at all.
I didn't realize, but this is a spinoff of the series Echoes in Time, which I have not read. Didn't keep me from enjoying this story. The world build is pinned to Egyptian mythology, a break from the Western/European urban fantasy tropes generally written about. Lots of new terms get thrown about, but I never felt lost with them.Kat is a typical kick-ass heroine. A little lost, but not without reason. When she hears her brother has gone missing, she steps back into the life she'd set aside to
Not a bad story. A part of a larger universe in a different series, so I'll probably go back to that and see what the full story is at some point. Good characters, good story.

Egyptian gods and goddesses morph into a Supergirl fantasy crossed with Jessica Jones. This is a YA series that isn't.The heroine is 38 trapped in the body - and hormones - of an 18 year old. For eternity. Or until she is killed - but she is very very hard to kill. The myths of Old Egypt meet - something new to me, although it seemed to be loosely based on these myths with lots of additions.Did I like the books? Of course. I always like a kickass female heroine and Kat wins on all scales from herInkwitch was a great start for the new year.
