Relation In Favor Of Books Artistic License
Single, thirty-something Thea traded her promising career as a photographer for the quiet countryside of the English Cotswalds. But when she meets a promising, sexy Irish painter while vacationing in Provence, her creative spirit is unexpectedly reawakened.Impressed by Rory's charm, but even more taken by his talent, Thea is determined to showcase his paintings for the art world. Resisting his sex appeal, convincing him to forgo the London art scene, and transforming an abandoned building into a cutting-edge gallery in the less-than-hip countryside all give Thea more of a challenge than she bargained for.
Add to the mix a group of old friends, some reluctant teens, a passel of puppies, and a new romantic prospect or two, and Katie Fforde's latest novel delivers art, friendship, love, sex, and delicious new beginnings.

after the last FForde book I read I didn't want to read another. I just started reading this after finding it my library and not noticing the author. It was much better than the last one I read with the main character not being so backwards. Her books all follow the exact same plot so nothing was very unexpected. It was good enough to finish and fit my need for a light easy read. For a book written by a woman, about a woman, and presumably for women, it left me with a particularly bitter after-taste of unfortunate implications. Not only were the characters one-dimensional, utterly irrational and, consequently, dreadfully unrealistic, their interactions implied a seriously unhealthy image of the ideal romantic relationship. Throughout the novel, the main love interest (Ben) has done nothing but argue with the heroine (Thea) culminating in physical intimidation and even
I normally like books by Katie Fforde, but this one was dreadful. I read about half of it, then lost the will to live (or read, to be more precise). What a predictable story, what clicheed characters! I rolled my eyes so much, I started to get headaches. I thought I'd manage to grit my literary teeth and stick with it until the bitter end (for the sake of the puppies, the only characters in the book I actually cared about enough to want to find out what happens to them), but I realised life's

Artistic License does exactly what it says on the tin. (Yes, sometimes you can judge a book by its cover!) The story is one of a middle-aged lady who is kind of floating and being pushed around by life and her pushy friend and students. She spontaneously heads to Ireland to visit an artist she met and she falls in love... with his work. She then decides to open a gallery to show his work. A series of fortunate coincidences and unfortunate (but foreseeable) problems follow. One issue I had with
So heres the thing; while I really liked some aspects of the book like Toby and the puppies it somehow fell flat. My theory is that there wasnt enough occasion for romance between Ben and Thea what with his dates appearing even at the very end and Rory remaining a constant presence throughout and as such I simply was rooting for them to be together as much as I could have been. I still enjoyed the book but just felt a little flat with the rather abrupt ending.
Really enjoyed this book. I am literally binge reading Katie Fforde's books and I am loving it x
Usual Katie Fforde brilliant escapism. Enjoyed the story. I recommend all her books for light reading sessions. Characters are always likeable and normal, she has a knack of knowing a normal reaction, her characters do what people would probably do if they had that characters personality, but she weaves a lighthearted romantic story around them that is delightful to read.
