Comment On Of Books xxxHolic, Vol. 5 (xxxHOLiC #5)
CLAMP, xxxHolic vol. 5 (Del Rey, 2005)There's something about the fifth volume of xxxHolic that seems to encourage lawlessness. My library's copies walked off, so I had to get it Interlibrary Loan, and the copy I received had a few pages that had been expertly sliced out. Go figure. CLAMP really seem to have gotten into this one in the past few episodes, as they follow up the twin-sister episode with some real crackers here. All the wackniess of the Valentine's Day hijinks in volume 4 come back

Amewarashi, friend (or cousin or something) to Zashikiwarashi, makes her sassy appearance after having been referred to Watanuki (no doubt by Zshkwrsh herself) because she has "someone" she wants rescued and can't get near herself. The someone she wants saved turns out to be a hydrangea that is being contaminated by the corpse of young girl. She can't get "near" because the dead girl is actually in the realm between living and dead and since Amewarashi is an immortal being, she can't walk those

The Ame-warashi pops by but not all is what it seems, that part under the flowers was pretty horrifying though, the poor girl. Then Watanuki remembers to bring a white day gift to a certain someone (dude, way too late). And he gains a pipe fox who I was delighted to see again, I always loved that critter, both in his tiny form and his bigger and badder form. Though I was sad when he broke up THAT moment. We meet a girl with wings and I just loved seeing serious Yuuko, I just love her more when

I think my favorite part about reading this series is looking at the awesome chapter splash page artwork! (is that sad?) Haha! The splash pages are just fantastic! My favorite one from this volume was the last on of Watanuki looking like a genie! I also loved the first two page spread of Watanuki and Domeki-kun looking like old school vampires. I love all of them but those two were probably my favorites! And that is really all I have to say for this volume :-/ I'm enjoying this series but it's

The series turned a corner right around here, from mild interest in continuing to eager anticipation. There's been a slight change from using one-off characters to recurring ones, which helps. The pipe fox spirit adds a star all by itself. Whether in its adorable small form, or its powerful large one, it's awesome!

The best yet by far in this wonderful series. I am amazed that there is so much that people can learn about the different cultures by reading books and this one shows us why that is so important. The stories here are more defined than in the other books and are a great read. They only issue I had was that I tend to get lost in the story itself so easily that I often wonder if I have spent any time reading at all. Overall just a great read with lessons about humanity and life as well.
