Αρχικά ενθουσιάστηκα. Με άρεσε πάρα πολύ ο τρόπος που έγραφε τις ιστορίες της η Χέρμαν - ιστορίες με ταξίδια, έρωτες, συναντήσεις, τσιγάρα, αλκοόλ. Επτά τον αριθμό. Η πρώτη ιστορία με άρεσε πάρα πολύ. Η δεύτερη, επίσης με άρεσε πολύ, έμοιαζε με την πρώτη. Η τρίτη, που, οκέι, καλή ήταν κι αυτή, με τη δεύτερη. Η τέταρτη, που εντάξει ήταν, με την τρίτη και ούτω καθεξής. Γραμμένες στο ίδιο (ελκυστικό) στιλ, στις επτά ιστορίες άλλαζε μόνον ο τόπος, το ταξίδι (που η συγγραφέας, δυστυχώς, χρησιμοποίησε ως αφορμή και είχε όχι πολλά να πει για τη Νεβάδα, τη Βενετία, την Πράγα, το Βερολίνο, τη Νορβηγία, την Ισλανδία, το Καρλοβιβάρι). Αντιθέτως, οι άνθρωποι μοιάζαν πάντα ίδιοι, οι συνθήκες πάντα ίδιες. Αναπόφευκτα ο αρχικός ενθουσιασμός έφθινε. Η ποιότητα παρέμενε ίδια, τόσο ίδια μάλιστα, που την τελευταία ιστορία τη διάβασα με το ζόρι, για την ακρίβεια -και αυτό με καθιστά, εννοείται, αναξιόπιστο αναγνώστη- τη διάβασα από το τέλος στην αρχή, αναζητώντας (μάταια) λίγη ποικιλία βρε αδερφέ.Δεν είναι καθόλου κακή πάντως η συλλογή της Χέρμαν - οι όχι πολλές βιβλιοκριτικές στα ελληνικά που βρήκα είναι εγκωμιαστικές.

Hailed as the sound of a new German generation, Hermanns style of short-story telling is indeed unique (and since often attempted to imitate): Focus on the circumstantial, leave the important unmentioned. Definitely doesnt work for many, but it does for her.einen stern für die island geschichte - die hat mir als einzige gefallen.
Irgendwie bekannte Motive und sprachlich nicht mehr überraschend... Aber gut. Klar, gut schon!
My buddy Carsten adores this book in German and found me the english translation. There are some stories which explain the aloofness felt and expressed by people of this generation in Europe, including him. He finds it reflects his life pretty well. The first story reminded us both of Frances Ha, our favourite film. :D The other stories are sad, and reek out the loneliness felt in various situations, and the empty space of being where we cannot express ourselves. I guess. :)
Judith Hermann is a German author.She holds a Masters degree in German and Philosophy and attended the Berliner Journalistenschule, a highly selective professional academy for journalists. During this training she did an internship with the German language newspaper Aufbau in New York.
Written beautifully and brutally real. I have enjoyed this book so much... in spite of not being a fan of short stories. I FELT what I read.
A series of disconnected short stories about various forms of relationships, disappointing, unconventional or otherwise. The meaning of each story and the collective meaning of the book is difficult to extract, so much so that I question whether a meaning even exists and this is a story for the sake of sadness and heartache.
