A perfect biography: not focussing on tiny details but putting Magellan's big idea (finding a way around South America and sailing around the world) first. Lots of information on the thinking, believing and acting back in those times when Europe explored more new territories than ever before (and the pope divided the New World between Portugal and Spain).

This book opened Stefan Zweig for me - I wonder how I didn't know him before.Great book in all senses: highly recommended for all who love travels and history.

At the end in the moment of the triumph of handful of men that survived for three years, I have felt like I was there in Seville, and I nearly cried over their destiny and success after such diificult conditions.
