Explanation During Books Promises in Death (In Death #28)

Amarylis Coltraine may have recently transferred to the New York City police force from Atlanta, but she's been a cop long enough to know how to defend herself against an assailant. When she's taken down just steps away from her apartment, killed with her own weapon, for Eve the victim isn't just 'one of us.'

Dallas's friend Chief Medical Examiner Morris and Coltraine had started a serious relationship, and from all accounts the two were headed for a happy future together. But someone has put an end to all that. After breaking the news to Morris, Eve starts questioning everyone from Coltraine's squad, informants, and neighbors, while Eve's husband, Roarke, digs into computer data on Coltraine's life back in Atlanta. To their shock, they discover a connection between this case and their own painful, shadowy pasts.

The truth will need to be uncovered one layer at a time, starting with the box that arrives at Cop Central addressed to Eve containing Coltraine's guns, badge, and a note from her killer: 'You can have them back. Maybe someday soon, I'll be sending yours to somebody else.'

But Eve Dallas doesn't take too kindly to personal threats, and she is going to break this case, whatever it takes. And that's a promise.

Appraise Based On Books Promises in Death (In Death #28)
She was dead the minute she answered the 'link.Eve is called to a murder scene and is shocked to discover the body of a fellow officer. Amarylis Coltraine is not just a cop, she is also the girlfriend of Head Medical Examiner, Li Morris. Oh my goodness! This book had all the feels. It was awful that Eve had to do a notification with Morris. The scene was typical Eve although she did allow physical touch. My heart was breaking for MorrisI like how previous cases wind their way back around to

I wish there were more than words, because theyre never enough, or theyre simply too much. But Im very sorry. The one where death hits close to home as Eve investigates the death of a fellow cop. Ammy was a side character dating the ME Morris. Eve hasnt really interacted much with Ammy, but Morris is a close work friend. So it hits hard. The murder itself is overshadowed by the impact on her coworkers. On a personal side, Louise and Charles are getting married, and this book has the bachelor

In Death book number 28 in which one of their own dies a very unpleasant death and all the stops are pulled out to find the murderer and bring them to justice. Some very emotional moments between Morris and Eve who finds herself in the position of supporting a friend in his moment of need. I love the way Eve and Roarke are progressing in their relationship with much more open communication and understanding. Mavis and Bella provide some of the light entertainment as do Galahad and even Summerset.

"I can help. We're the smart girls. Let's solve some crime!"This is not a book that can be appreciated if randomly picked off a shelf. The joy in reading it comes from knowing the series' characters, knowing the tropes, and watching them intersect, interact, and sometimes implode. This is a payoff book, not a setup book. The tensest scene is not Eve facing off against the prime suspect, but instead, an emotionally and physically intense deception pulled off by the victim's boyfriend (recurring

Promises in Death4 StarsEve and her team investigate the murder of one of their own. Leaving no stone unturned, Eve delves into the life of fellow officer Amarylis Coltraine and discovers a disturbing link to her own past, which may or may not have played an integral part in the detective's death. Despite the fact that Amarylis has only a very minor role in the series, her death has a profound effect mainly due to her close relationship with ME Morris. It is clear that the love they shared was

I went back in time to catch up some history on characters to when Morris's girlfriend was murdered. The case included much background on Eve and Rourke as well. Funny scenes including a bachelorette party at Eve's house lightened the rather sad tone of the book.
