I have a lot of thoughts. His premise is that godliness is one of the most important things we can strive for. It's based on the fear of God, love of God, and a desire for God. He talks about holiness through the lenses of the fruits of the spirit, and a few more than the ones found in in Galatians. He gets practical on a lot of ways to pursue godliness, but none of them necessarily new i.e. prayer, scripture reading, memorization, meditation. He is really big on discipline and lightly touches

As he says in the opening pages, Bridges wrote this as a follow up to Pursuit of Holiness. Since pursuing holiness involves dealing with sin and sinful habits in our lives, pursuing Godliness involves replacing the sin with godly habits. He fleshes this out by giving chapter length treatments to the various aspects of the fruit of the Spirit. Each chapter defines the characteristic of the fruit and gives simple, yet convicting (because this is Jerry Bridges) encouragement to living out that

The Practice of GodlinessGodliness has value for all things 1 Timothy 4:8by Jerry Bridges----------------------------------What is godliness? What Makes someone godly? These are some of the questions that Jerry poses in the beginning of his book. He provides a captivating study of God's word and how to understand our part in learning to be godly. This is his follow up book to Pursuit of Holiness (which I have not read). The book is broken deliberately into three sections - each covering parts of

In, The Practice of Godliness, Jerry Bridges explores the nature of what does it mean to be godly and to leave a godly life and the importance it plays in the Christian Life.At 226 pages and complete with the Practice of Godliness study guide, The Practice of Godliness was and is an intriguing read and good for not only personal exploration and development as a follower of Christ, but for group settings as we are called to understand what it means to be a godly Christian and particularly as we

This is one of my favorite devotional books so far. I've always loved Bridges for his approach to the delicate relationship between faith and works as found in the Scriptures. This book is a great follow up to The Pursuit of Holiness, but I think it goes even further and does a better job handling the topic. One of the cornerstone verses from the book was Colossians 3:12, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness

Excellent. I found the book well written and biblical in every aspect. I especially liked the study guide for personal or community growth.

"A book to be studied, not just read". Appreciated the author's defining what the New Testament conveys godliness as, a personal attitude toward God that results in actions that are pleasing to Him. I never thought of it that way. What is my attitude towards God, the most wonderful person in the universe (loved this description came upon in book, so accurate!)? He goes on to elaborate on personal attitude towards God being devotion to God. Devotion to God is composed of fear of God, love for
